about

Lillian Spencer is an interdisciplinary artist who explore themes of body dysphoria, self imposed victim blaming, grief and healing in the constext of sexual assault. Fueled by the phenomenon of never being understood that is experienced by survivors of trauma, she uses art as a way to go farther than our verbal language will go and give a true voice to the intricacies of trauma and to the wave of emotions that occur during healing. Her work not only strives to create a safe space for open communication about sexual trauma but also as a testimony to healing and coming to understand the new person that comes from that healing.

Lillian Spencer is an Ohio born artist who through her father's Navy career traveled and lived all over the country. Through her own experience as a sexual assault survivor, she uses art and psychology as a way to deconstruct stigma around mental health and sexual assault.
